New Blanket

Here's a secret for finding gear and regalia:  go to the Goodwill Store.  In my area, the GW (as we call it) runs 50% off sales all week on items having a certain colored tag.

In my area, the half-off week starts on Sunday.  So I hit the store near me on Mondays at lunch and look for deals.

Today, I picked up a nice cotton blanket with a pattern that looks kinda native.  And it was under $3.00.  It'll look nice with my other native regalia, and it's functional.

And, as a bonus, the tag says "Made in America."  Pretty rare nowadays.

Be Good and Dance

Tonight, we danced.  Not well, but it didn't matter.  It was fun.

"God told me to come back and tell my people they must be good and love one another, and not fight, or steal, or lie. He gave me this dance to give my people."
~ Wovoka, Paiute shaman (referring to the Ghost Dance)

Disney’s Lone Ranger is Native Approved

"Past Disney movies have not been well received by the Indian Country.  Pocahontas contained many historical inaccuracies and Peter Pan includes stereotypical portrayals of American Indians.  With the upcoming Lone Range movie, Disney hoped to have the blessing of Indian Country."

Mowogo Needs YOU!

A note from the Mowogo Lodge Chief.

Dear Fellow Arrowmen,

From April 26 until April 28, our lodge will partake in a grand fellowship with 11 other lodges at Camp Bert Adams in Covington, Georgia to compete, eat, laugh, and learn along with almost 1,000 other Arrowmen that are just as excited to make the most of this experience. The members of our lodge will get the opportunity to learn new skills and sharpen others in competitions from Indian events to ultimate Frisbee and volleyball. There is something here for everyone including some of the best patch trading that can be found in the country. If that wasn't enough, the National Chief of the Order of the Arrow, Matt Brown, and author, Alvin Townly, who wrote the best-selling book Legacy of Honor: The Values and Influence of America's Eagle Scouts. This will be the best Conclave to date for our Section, and our lodge is doing its part. As of now, we have 143 members from Mowogo Lodge attending this year's Conclave, but we're not through yet.

As the 2013 Lodge Chief of Mowogo Lodge, I have set a personal goal for our Lodge to bring no less than 200 members to Conclave. This goal should be no problem seeing as there are so many great reasons to go.

The Mowogo Administration has opened back up registration for this event until Thursday April 18.  The cost is $57 dollars, and is a great deal for such a special event. To register, please go onto mowogo.org to sign up. This is a great chance for our Lodge to grow even more. The entire country understands that Mowogo Lodge is the best Lodge. Let's reach this goal of 200 members, and let's let this be the greatest Conclave that Mowogo Lodge has ever partaken in. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Yours in Brotherhood,

Steven Pierce
2013 Lodge Chief of Mowogo Lodge

"Native" Projects

I have been expanding my "native" regalia a little here and there depending on however the urge strikes me.

Below are a couple of necklaces and a freshly antiqued knife sheath that I made myself about a year ago.
