Shiny and Purty

My son's first OA dance was at the SR9 conclave in 2013 at Bert Adams Scout Camp.  Part of native dancing is using decorated "hand items" to attract attention.

In our campsite that weekend, I found a lovely piece of wood that I later peeled and cured and sanded as a gift for him.  He can use it has a "hand item" in a future dance.

I added some clear sealer today that really revealed the grain.  Next, he'll be decorating it.  Stay tuned.

Ribbon Dance

We had our Lau-in-nih Chapter meeting a few days ago.  We planned for the upcoming Mowogo Lodge Pow Wow at Camp Rainey Mountain, and we ate a prodigious amount of ice cream.

Our dance team practiced the ribbon dance.  It's quite intricate, and requires more practice than you'd think.
